About This Video
Want a quick look at the figure? Watch the Hot Toys RoboCop 2 unboxing Short from Sideshow above. You can also browse our Hot Toys figures and collector coverage. It’s a quick introduction to the blue armor, alternate parts and accessories you get with this release.
If you’re deciding where he would fit in your collection, start with the armor and the different heads. You can keep the helmet on, switch to the unmasked Murphy head or use the damaged parts for a look from his fight with Cain. Our separate written review takes a closer look at the figure’s good points and the things to watch out for.
A Quick Look at the Blue Armor
This is RoboCop from the second movie, so the blue-and-purple finish is a big part of the appeal. Watch how the color changes as the camera moves around him. Look at the helmet, chest, arms and legs together, rather than judging the whole figure from one close-up.
The silver underneath still shows through the blue paint. Different lights can make the colors look stronger or lighter. A short video gives you a useful look at the finish, but it won’t tell you whether every production copy has exactly the same amount of blue.
Which Head Would You Display?
The helmeted head has interchangeable lower faceplates. Changing the mouth changes the expression beneath the visor, even when the figure is standing in a simple pose. If you like the classic RoboCop look, this is probably where you’ll start.
The unmasked Murphy head gives you another option. The face, wires and mechanical parts are worth a closer look. You don’t have to buy a second figure just to have that choice, since this head is included in the set.
Battle Damage and Accessories
The alternate helmet has the cut from Cain’s welding torch, and the damaged chest has the bullet holes and dents from RoboCop 2. You can swap those parts onto the body when you want a damaged look, then go back to the clean armor.
Cain’s brain is one of the accessories worth looking for. The clear dome shows the brain inside, with cables and a small section of spine underneath. It gives you something different to display alongside the usual weapons.
You also get the Nuke accessories, the Cobra Assault Cannon and two Auto-9 pistols. One pistol is diecast, while the plastic one has moving parts. They aren’t identical, so the features on one shouldn’t be confused with the other. The thigh holster is another detail to look at when planning a gun display.
Hands and Posing
The set has articulated hands for gestures and fixed hands for holding accessories. If you’ve ever struggled to get a small weapon to stay in articulated fingers, you’ll understand why a dedicated gun hand is useful.
Think about the pose you want before choosing the hands and weapons. A standing Auto-9 pose needs less room than a pose with the larger Cobra Assault Cannon. The head tilt can also do a lot for a simple display.
This is a short unboxing, so it isn’t a full check of every joint or a test of how the rubber will hold up over time. Our written review goes into the articulation limits and the care needed around the elbows and knees. Follow the figure’s instructions when changing parts and opening the holster.
Standard or Special Edition?
The standard figure is MMS827D74. The Special Edition is MMS827D74B and adds a metal collectible card. The figure and main accessories are the same, so the card is the extra you’re choosing between the two versions.
Both buttons take you to the matching Special Edition on Sideshow. You can check the current product details and see more photos there. If you want a closer look at the paint, faceplates, accessories and posing before deciding, read our Hot Toys RoboCop 2 review as well.
