A Closer Look at Sam (Junji Ito Suit)

The white suit turns Sam’s delivery gear into a Junji Ito piece, with the illustration on the back and UV-reactive Drawbridge slogans across the clothing. The black harness and customized BB Pod keep the equipment recognizable against the pale fabric.

The Standard and Artisan versions share that suit and cargo gear. Artisan replaces the sculpted hair with implanted wool and adds the illustrated metal card. Our sculpted-versus-rooted hair guide covers the differences between the two hair treatments.

The Junji Ito suit is an outfit in Death Stranding 2, not a costume invented just for this collectible. Hot Toys Japan identifies it as the suit obtained after completing Order No.034. That gives players a direct reference for the illustration and the unusual white finish when comparing the figure with Sam in the game.

It is still Norman Reedus's Sam beneath the artist-designed equipment. The portrait, cargo attachments and delivery gear connect it to his journey, while the artwork makes this particular outfit stand apart. For someone collecting Junji Ito's work, that distinction is useful: the figure represents Sam wearing the collaboration, not Ito himself or a character from one of his horror stories.

The contrast between the pale suit and dark equipment is also part of its appeal. Small buckles and layered straps remain easy to pick out, while the illustration has a much larger surface on the back. The separate art card in the Artisan package lets that artwork be appreciated without having to keep the figure turned away from the viewer.

Sam’s Equipment Beyond the Junji Ito Artwork

Dollman is easy to overlook among the larger cases, but he is one of the clearest connections to Death Stranding 2. He accompanies Sam on deliveries, with movements in the game that resemble stop-motion animation. The small companion adds a character relationship to a figure otherwise covered in practical equipment. For someone who remembers their journeys with Dollman, leaving him visible can matter more than showing every cargo attachment at once.

PlayStation’s game guide also explains why Sam’s loadout is not limited to courier equipment. The sequel lets players choose between armed encounters and stealth, with weapons, distractions and abilities suited to different approaches. Alongside that, the Social Strand System lets players help one another through shared structures, supplies and unfinished deliveries. Sam can therefore be remembered as the person hauling someone else’s lost cargo as readily as the person going into a fight. The figure’s equipment makes more sense with both parts of the game in mind.

The silver Battle Skeleton has a specific game reference as well. PlayStation’s launch announcement listed silver Battle, Boost and Bokka Skeletons among the game’s preorder bonuses. They are different equipment types; the Hot Toys inventory identifies the Battle Skeleton. Its mechanical appearance is not simply decoration added to match the white suit.

Release Information

Hot Toys Sam (Junji Ito Suit) Artisan Edition is expected at US retailers in July–December 2027.

Buying from Hot Toys or Secret Base in Hong Kong usually means getting the figure around 6–8 weeks before US retailers. Overseas shipping accounts for that gap, but the timing varies by shipment.
