Beast is joining the Avengers: Doomsday lineup with a Kelsey Grammer head sculpt, implanted blue hair and a fiber-covered body. Standard MMS920 comes with the character stand; Deluxe MMS921 puts him over a damaged Sentinel head with USB-lit eyes. Both versions stand approximately 12.8 inches tall.
The figure is the same. Your choice is the regular character stand or the damaged Sentinel-head diorama.
The Regular Stand
Includes a figure stand with the Avengers: Doomsday logo and character nameplate.
You still get the Kelsey Grammer head sculpt, movable eyes, implanted blue hair and fiber-covered body.
The Sentinel Diorama
Replaces the regular stand with a damaged Sentinel-head base, exposed cabling and green flame effects.
The Sentinel's eyes light up. This is a feature of the Deluxe base, not a light-up function in Beast's eyes.
Beast in 1/6 scale, approximately 12.8 inches tall, with 30 points of articulation; a Kelsey Grammer head sculpt with separate rolling eyeballs; implanted blue wool hair; fiber hair across the torso and limbs; interchangeable hand gestures; dark blue pants with yellow details; and a yellow X-Men belt.
Beast · MMS920 / MMS921
The Deluxe specification lists six interchangeable hands, arranged as the following three pairs. Both versions provide fist, claw and grabbing gestures.
The Deluxe accessory list names the Sentinel diorama rather than the regular stand. Do not count on receiving both bases.
Beast is approximately 12.8 inches tall before you allow for the display base or a raised-arm pose. Hot Toys has not supplied the Deluxe base's full width, depth or combined display height.
The regular stand makes sense if you want Beast alongside Cyclops from Avengers: Doomsday and Professor X MMS917. Leave space between the figures for Beast's arms and hands, especially if you prefer an open claw pose.
The Deluxe photographs put Beast over the broken Sentinel head, which gives him a proper battle scene. If that is the look you want, measure the usable space in your display case before ordering around it. A crouched figure can sit lower while taking up more shelf depth.
For an older IKEA DETOLF, measure the clear distance between the shelves and the usable width and depth inside the frame. Compare those measurements with the finished base and your chosen pose; the figure's standing height alone cannot establish a fit. A suitably sized Moducase or Moduspace compartment is another option once the complete diorama dimensions are confirmed.
The fur is the big talking point with this guy. Hot Toys has used fiber hair across the torso and limbs instead of relying entirely on sculpted texture, and the swept-back hair on his head is implanted wool. That gives Beast a very different appearance from a figure wearing a fabric suit, because so much of his body is exposed.
The close-ups show where the facial hair meets the longer body fibers, so take a good look at that transition before deciding how you feel about it. The face still needs to carry Kelsey Grammer's likeness, while the chest and arms need to look like Beast. There is a lot going on in that combination, and the gallery gives you several angles rather than just one dramatically lit portrait.
The supplied head has a serious expression and separate rolling eyeballs. Changing his eye direction gives you another way to line up the face with a reaching hand or a crouched pose without changing the entire head sculpt. The official inventory lists one head; it does not list a second shouting expression.
The movable eyes are shared by the two versions. You do not need Deluxe to get them, and they should not be confused with the green lighting inside the Sentinel base. Beast's own eyes are not listed as illuminated.
The hand gestures suit the character. Fists work with a straightforward fighting pose, while the open claws and grabbing hands give you more to do with his long arms. In the Deluxe gallery, those hands also help connect Beast to the wreckage beneath him instead of leaving him standing above it with nothing to interact with.
Hot Toys specifies 30 points of articulation, but that number does not tell you how far every joint will move on the finished figure. The promotional poses show the intended displays; they are not a handling guide or a promise that the body fibers will hide every connection from every angle.
The dark blue pants have yellow trim, and the matching belt has silver accents around the X-Men buckle. Those yellow details stand out against all the blue, which is useful when you are putting Beast into a group of figures with very different costumes. The outfit is also simple enough that the head sculpt and body remain the focus.
A lab coat, glasses and a tablet are not listed in the verified contents. If you are hoping to display Hank McCoy in a laboratory setup, do not assume those extras come with this release. This announcement concentrates on Beast ready for a fight.
The damaged Sentinel head is the reason to choose MMS921. The exposed cables, broken armor and green effects give you something more substantial than a plain nameplate stand, and the light-up eyes add to that scene. I like that the upgrade gives Beast an enemy to stand over rather than simply making the regular base bigger.
Whether you want it comes down to your display. If Beast is joining a full X-Men lineup on one shelf, the regular stand may be the more practical choice. If you want to give him his own scene, the Deluxe base does a lot of that work for you. Check the actual footprint when those measurements become available; the extra scenery still has to fit in your case.
The base is USB-powered according to Hot Toys. The announcement does not confirm a supplied power adapter, cable specification or connector type. Check those requirements before planning a powered display. The green flame pieces are included effects, but the manufacturer specifically identifies the eyes as illuminated rather than promising that every green part lights up.
