Double-Bladed Lightsaber Pose

The determined portrait suits a low, double-bladed guard, with the robe gathered behind the arms. A diagonal saber angle can show both red blades without stretching them straight across the shelf.

Two-Saber Attack Pose

The split hilt lets Maul carry a weapon in each hand. The snarling portrait and motion blades suit that wider attack pose, which needs considerably more room than his 11.42-inch standing height alone suggests.

A Closer Look at Maul

Shadow Lord presents Maul after his Sith apprenticeship, with mechanical legs beneath layered black robes. The outfit and portraits distinguish this release from his younger Phantom Menace appearance.

The two heads offer a change in mood: a tight, focused expression or an open snarl. Combined with the single- and double-bladed saber arrangements, they suit a quiet guard or a wider attack pose.

Shadow Lord follows Maul in the early years of the Empire, trying to rebuild his position in the criminal underworld. That is a different point in his life from the silent Sith apprentice in The Phantom Menace. He has survived his old master's betrayal and has his own ambitions, which gives the harder expression and mechanical legs a clear place in the character's story.

The series takes him to Janix, an urban world built around the crime-story setting. Sam Witwer returns as Maul, continuing the performance familiar from The Clone Wars and Rebels. If those animated appearances are your favorite version of the character, the series connection matters as much as the familiar red-and-black face.

When comparing this release with a film-based Maul, look at the face and clothing rather than treating the red lightsaber as the main difference. The sculpt needs to carry the sharper, more expressive animated character while the layered outfit gives the sixth-scale figure physical depth. The result belongs with a Shadow Lord collection; it is not simply a replacement for a younger Naboo-duel Maul.

Maul is trying to become the teacher

Shadow Lord gives Maul someone he wants to influence: Devon Izara, a disillusioned Jedi Padawan. The series' announcement places their relationship alongside his attempt to rebuild a criminal organization. That changes the familiar balance. The former apprentice is now trying to recruit someone for his own purposes, rather than simply following a Sith Master's instructions.

That is a useful reason to consider the quieter portrait. Maul does not spend every scene charging with both blades extended. He also watches, calculates and tries to persuade. A controlled expression can belong to the series just as strongly as the snarl, especially if the character is shown alone rather than in a duel.

The named series matters when comparing Maul releases. The Phantom Menace, The Clone Wars, Rebels and Shadow Lord do not show one unchanged costume or stage of his life. A collector following his whole story may want several interpretations. Someone choosing one should use the version of Maul they enjoy watching, rather than assume the newest head sculpt replaces all the earlier appearances.
