Planning Your Display

Hunting and Standing Poses

Dek’s Combistick works for a two-handed hunting pose, while the mask and lowered plasma sword make a simpler standing display. The wired Razor Grass whip and Spray Snake need more space beside him than either of those arrangements.

Room for Dek and Bud

Dek stands approximately 12 inches tall and Bud about 6.3 inches. Put Bud near the front of the rocky base, where the taller figure and long weapons will not hide him. The base’s width and depth have not been confirmed.

A Closer Look at Dek (Bone Bison Armor) and Bud

Dek’s equipment is what makes this version different from the usual armored Predator. The Bone Bison remains, fur and improvised weapons reflect his fight to survive on Genna, rather than another loadout of polished alien technology. The interchangeable mandibles also give him a different expression with the mask off.

For the Badlands group, Thia and Bud adds Thia in her Weyland-Yutani uniform. Bud is included in both packages, which is worth knowing if you plan to collect the pair of sets.

Dek is beginning his life as a hunter rather than arriving with the status of an experienced Predator. Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi explains in Disney's production interview that he has not earned equipment such as a cloaking device or shoulder cannon. Their absence is part of the character, not a reason to assume pieces are missing from the figure.

That makes the Bone Bison outfit a record of this particular hunt. The materials he finds on Genna sit alongside the technology he brought with him. Instead of matching every weapon to a clean armor plate, the figure combines fur, bone shapes and unfamiliar living-world details with the recognizable Predator body.

The uncovered head deserves attention for the same reason. Dek needs to communicate more than the threat of an anonymous creature behind a mask. The eyes and mandibles let collectors show the individual under the armor, while Bud gives him another character to interact with. This set is strongest as Dek's own story rather than a substitute for an older jungle-hunter design.

Dek has a language as well as a creature suit

Badlands gives its Predator a sustained speaking role. Director Dan Trachtenberg describes working with language specialist Britton Watkins to develop grammar and vocabulary around Yautja physiology. Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi had to perform Dek through that language as well as the physical creature costume. The face is doing more than providing a brief reveal beneath a mask.

That background makes the mandibles an important part of the character's expression. An open mouth can suggest speech or a reaction, not only a threat. The uncovered face can therefore suit a scene with Thia or Bud without making Dek look as though he is attacking his companions.

For someone used to collecting earlier Predators, it is a useful shift in emphasis. This figure can be judged as a named protagonist with relationships, rather than only as an impressive creature and a collection of weapons. The bone armor records his circumstances, while the eyes and mouth help communicate the individual wearing it.

Release Information

Hot Toys Dek (Bone Bison Armor) and Bud set is expected at US retailers in April–September 2027.

Buying from Hot Toys or Secret Base in Hong Kong usually means getting the set around 6–8 weeks before US retailers. Overseas shipping accounts for that gap, but the timing varies by shipment.
